More than 3,000 people have been killed in Lebanon in the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, authorities said.<\/p>\n
Lebanon\u2019s Health Ministry reported on Monday that 3,020 people have been killed and 9,273 injured since the latest escalation began in early March. The ministry does not distinguish between civilians and members of the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia.<\/p>\n
The war between Israel and Hezbollah reignited in the wake of the broader conflict involving Iran, leading to renewed open hostilities in Lebanon. A ceasefire was first agreed in mid-April, but both sides have continued attacks despite the truce. An extension announced on Friday has so far failed to halt the fighting.<\/p>\n
Clashes continued on Monday, with the Israeli military saying it had killed a commander of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad in the Bekaa Valley in eastern Lebanon.<\/p>\n
Lebanon\u2019s state news agency NNA also reported several Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon, where Israeli troops remain stationed. Hezbollah, for its part, said it had carried out multiple attacks on Israeli positions in the area.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun reiterated his commitment to ending the war, according to NNA. Lebanon\u2019s government is not a direct party to the conflict.<\/p>\n
