A large Pikachu and airplane balloon will appear in the airport’s second-floor atrium, while flying-type Pokémon decorations will be placed across the airport property. The arrival lobby will feature “Akarui Mirai,” a recovery-support artwork created in 2024 for Noto, along with three-dimensional monuments of Pikachu, Plusle, and Minun.

The airport entrance, terminal doors, boarding bridges, walls, and some signs will also receive Pokémon-themed designs. A “Pikachu no Satoyama” display will be added to the observation deck, giving travelers another photo-friendly area inside the airport experience. Visitors will also be able to watch three original short videos through their smartphones while inside the airport.

One of the stories, titled “Fly, Bagon,” connects to a monument of Bagon looking up at Salamence. Ishikawa Prefecture said the airport will also feature original artwork called “Kibou no Sora,” or “Sky of Hope,” which will appear in decorations, merchandise, and bus designs.

What Travelers Can Expect From The Pokémon Airport Experience

The Pokémon airport will extend beyond photo spots. Restaurant Annon, located on the airport’s third floor, plans to serve original Pokémon menu items, including two pancake options and two drinks. Travelers who order a pancake-and-drink set will receive their meal on an original luncheon mat.

The airport’s second-floor shop, Serendipity, will also sell exclusive items using the airport logo and “Kibou no Sora” artwork. Planned products include T-shirts, keychains, luggage tags, and suitcase belts. Ishikawa Prefecture noted that some items may be in limited supply or subject to purchase limits.

The airport will also serve as a starting point for Pokémon-themed travel around the Noto Peninsula. Beginning in mid-July, two Hokuriku Railroad Group buses will operate with Pokémon wrapping. One will run on the existing express route connecting Kanazawa Station, the airport, and Wajima. Another new sightseeing bus is being planned to connect the airport with Pokémon tourism spots in Noto, including the Wakura Pokémon Footbath in Nanao and the “Sylveon with LOVE” monument in Suzu. The prefecture said the sightseeing route is still being adjusted, with more details expected before the opening.

The project comes at a sensitive time for Noto. Ishikawa Prefecture said its partnership with the Pokémon With You Foundation aims to bring smiles to children affected by the 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake while supporting tourism demand, regional connections, and local activity. That recovery context positions Pokémon as a tool for drawing travelers to communities still working to rebuild.

Why Pokémon Tourism Keeps Drawing Travelers To Japan

Pokémon already plays a major role in Japan’s pop culture tourism economy. The Japan National Tourism Organization has described Pokémon as one of Japan’s biggest pop culture exports and noted that fans travel to Japan for Pokémon Center stores, real-life locations connected to the franchise, Pokémon GO events, and official Pokémon tourism ambassadors. Pokémon has increasingly supported travel to lesser-visited and disaster-affected regions, which directly aligns with the Noto airport project.

The airport also fits into Pokémon Local Acts, a broader initiative that promotes Japanese regions by pairing local governments with “Ambassadorial Pokémon” whose traits connect to each place. The project highlights both well-known and lesser-known local attractions through activities designed with prefectures and municipalities.

The Noto airport project also reflects Japan’s growing use of pop culture as a travel draw. Pokémon gives regional destinations a globally recognized entry point for travelers who may already know the characters before they know the place.

The post Japan Is Turning A Real Airport Into A Pokémon World This Summer appeared first on Travel Noire.

Source link

Japan is turning a regional airport into a Pokémon-themed travel destination this summer as Ishikawa Prefecture works to bring visitors back to
Read More ›

[2

https://s.yimg.com/lo/mysterio/api/6d96fdd2a73e324c40cc070e6d8e204a95fb19830ecfc5c2172a28c085984238/lightyear_networkapi/resizefill_w1200;quality_80;format_webp/https:%2F%2Fmedia.zenfs.com%2Fen%2Ftravel_noire_articles_954%2F7cbeb7214b2b2d3fb8191fca61e9d5a1
