BRASILIA, June 24 (Reuters) – Brazil’s government will announce measures to improve support for gig \u200cworkers and small businesses in the coming \u200cdays, including proposals to raise the income ceiling for benefits \u200band tax-debt renegotiation, and expand access to public sector purchases, the Ministry of Entrepreneurship said on Wednesday. <\/p>\n
\u2022 Micro-entrepreneurs (MEIs) make up a simplified Brazilian business \u200ccategory created by \u2060the government to formalize self-employed workers, such as food delivery and rideshare drivers, \u2060and small business owners. <\/p>\n
\u2022 The measures aim to strengthen opportunities for more than 16 million formalized \u200bMEIs in \u200bBrazil, the ministry said. <\/p>\n
\u2022 \u200bIt did not detail \u200cthe new ceiling for benefits and tax-debt renegotiation, but Finance Minister Dario Durigan said last week that by 2028 workers earning up to about 130,000 reais ($25,023), up from 81,000 reais now, \u200cwould be eligible. <\/p>\n
\u2022 Another measure \u200bwill regularize debts of MEIs \u200bregistered in federal \u200bactive debt so they can operate \u200cagain and access benefits. <\/p>\n
\u2022 A \u200bthird pillar \u200bwill expand the “Contrata + Brasil” program, which allows small businesses to sell to the public sector, \u200bthrough an \u200cexpanded network of participating entities. <\/p>\n
