The police temporarily detained the owner and questioned him. The investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, there was also a sense of relief in the province of Castellón on the Levante coast, with a fire in the Vall d’Uixó area, north of Valencia, also contained, according to the authorities.

The flames raged across some 9,300 hectares of land, forcing the evacuation of thousands of people.

However, the situation in Spain remains tense, with three new wildfires having since broken out, state broadcaster TVE reported on Thursday.

The latest fires, in the province of León in the north-west of the country, have so far forced 300 residents from the area around the village of San Cipriano to leave their homes. They have been temporarily accommodated in schools and sports halls.

Earlier, another fire broke out in a nature reserve in the province of Zamora, near the border with Portugal, forcing the evacuation of a campsite and 12 villages on Thursday morning, with around 1,000 people affected, the broadcaster reported.

Firefighters and emergency services have since managed to contain the flames on two fronts, according to local authorities.

Both regions also experienced severe fires last year that destroyed tens of thousands of hectares of forest and scrubland.

The new fires coincide with the fourth heatwave of 2026, which is expected to last until at least Sunday.

Temperatures of over 40 degrees Celsius and strong winds are hampering fire-fighting efforts in many places. Several fires are also active in neighbouring Portugal and France.

Source link

Spain is lifting a state of national emergency imposed because of the severe wildfires raging near Madrid after progress was made to
Read More ›

"_seopress_social_twitter_img_attachment_id":0
[2

https://s.yimg.com/lo/mysterio/api/3c8bfa26f0bd3d3154d02fbdf7a6826c9178abc655aad7f5eec8cc496ec66114/lightyear_networkapi/resizefill_w1200;quality_80;format_webp/https:%2F%2Fmedia.zenfs.com%2Fen%2Fdpa_international_526%2F3715d4a294d8777f824ba9706390562d
