TOKYO, Aug 5 (Reuters) – Japan’s real wages grew 1.6% in June from a year before, \u200ca sixth consecutive month of increases, government \u200cdata showed on Wednesday, supporting the case for more rate \u200bhikes by the central bank. <\/p>\n
\u2022 Average nominal wages, or total cash earnings, rose 3.4% to 531,677 yen ($3,373.6) a month, faster than a revised 3.3% gain \u200cin May. <\/p>\n
\u2022 The \u2060growth in real pay matched May’s revised 1.6% gain. <\/p>\n
\u2022 Workers’ base salaries, or \u2060regular pay, increased 3.4%, accelerating from a 3.0% rise in May. Overtime pay growth in June stood \u200bat 2.8%, \u200bthe same rate as \u200bin May after a \u200cdownward revision. <\/p>\n
\u2022 Special payments, consisting mostly of one-time bonuses that tend to be volatile, rose 3.5% in June after a revised 7.4% growth for May. <\/p>\n
\u2022 In its latest economic forecast released last month, \u200cJapan’s government projected nominal \u200bwages to rise 3.1% annually \u200bthrough fiscal 2027 \u200band real wages to keep growing despite \u200cpersistent inflation. <\/p>\n
\u2022 The Bank \u200bof Japan maintained \u200binterest rates at its July policy meeting. Governor Kazuo Ueda mentioned upside risks to prices, \u200bseen as \u200ca nod for another rate hike as soon \u200bas September. <\/p>\n
