A woman says she has not been able to contact her sister who was near the Nepal-Tibet border when devastating flash flooding hit.<\/p>\n
Nepalese authorities reported<\/a> at least 389 people have died and more than 900 are missing, including 33 UK tourists, following the natural disaster on Wednesday.<\/p>\n In Tibet, at least 558 people are missing, with three confirmed dead, but it is unclear if these figures overlap with Nepal’s.<\/p>\n Tatajana Phillips, from Folkestone in Kent, said the last known location of her sister Julija Jakovicka was in the border area an hour before the flash floods struck.<\/p>\n “Then there is no more news,” she told the BBC.<\/p>\n “We are really hoping that people hear us and try to find and locate [my sister]”.<\/p>\n Phillips said her sister, a mother-of-two living in Germany, was in the country for a yoga and meditation retreat.<\/p>\n “We are terribly worried,” added Phillips’s husband Ben. “We just know where they were and that’s really tough.”<\/p>\n It comes as members of the Nepalese community in Kent have sent messages of hope and comfort to those impacted by the flash floods.<\/p>\n Medway Council’s Nina Gurung, who is a representative of the Gurkha-Nepalese community, told BBC Radio Kent<\/a> the situation was “absolutely shocking and devastating”.<\/p>\n Video shows scale of flash flood hitting Nepal-Tibet border<\/p>\n “We are trying to get further updates from families and friends back home to support each other and see what we can do here in the UK,” she said.<\/p>\n Despite the overwhelming situation, Gurung added the community was doing whatever it could to show solidarity and send out a message to those impacted to “stay strong”.<\/p>\n‘We also pray’<\/h2>\n
