{"id":7794,"date":"2023-11-14T21:22:57","date_gmt":"2023-11-15T02:22:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newssprinters.com\/index.php\/sport\/lia-block-joins-williams-for-f1-academy\/14\/11\/2023\/"},"modified":"2023-11-14T21:22:57","modified_gmt":"2023-11-15T02:22:57","slug":"lia-block-joins-williams-for-f1-academy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newssprinters.com\/index.php\/sport\/lia-block-joins-williams-for-f1-academy\/14\/11\/2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Lia Block joins Williams for F1 Academy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Lia Block, the daughter of late rallying legend Ken Block, will represent Williams in the F1 Academy series next year.<\/p>\n<p>The Academy is aimed at preparing young female drivers to progress up the racing pyramid.<\/p>\n<p>The series will support F1 at seven races next year, including May&#8217;s Miami Grand Prix.<\/p>\n<p>Block, 17, will race for ART Grand Prix alongside McLaren&#8217;s Bianca Bustamente.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"inline inline-photo full\">\n<figure><picture><source data-srcset=\"https:\/\/a.espncdn.com\/combiner\/i?img=%2Fphoto%2F2023%2F1114%2Fr1253259_649x365_16%2D9.jpg&amp;w=570&amp;format=jpg, https:\/\/a.espncdn.com\/combiner\/i?img=%2Fphoto%2F2023%2F1114%2Fr1253259_649x365_16%2D9.jpg&amp;w=1140&amp;cquality=40&amp;format=jpg 2x\" media=\"(min-width: 376px)\"><source data-srcset=\"https:\/\/a.espncdn.com\/combiner\/i?img=%2Fphoto%2F2023%2F1114%2Fr1253259_649x365_16%2D9.jpg&amp;w=375, https:\/\/a.espncdn.com\/combiner\/i?img=%2Fphoto%2F2023%2F1114%2Fr1253259_649x365_16%2D9.jpg&amp;w=750&amp;cquality=40&amp;format=jpg 2x\" media=\"(max-width: 375px)\"><img class=\" lazyload lazyload\" data-image-container=\".inline-photo\" height=\"320\" width=\"570\"\/><\/source><\/source><\/picture><figcaption class=\"photoCaption\">Lia Block will represent Williams in the F1 Academy series next year.\u00a0<cite>Williams Racing<\/cite><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Block won the 2023 American Rally Association Open Two-Wheel Drive class, becoming the series&#8217; youngest ever champion.<\/p>\n<p>She recently conducted an open wheel car test to prepare for next season.<\/p>\n<p>Block will also work closely with Williams at its UK headquarters in Grove.<\/p>\n<p>By working closely with existing F1 and F2 teams like ART, F1 hopes the women taking part in the Academy will gain a valuable insight into what is required to take the next steps in their careers.<\/p>\n<p>Williams boss James Vowles said: &#8220;We are excited to welcome Lia to Williams Racing as our F1 Academy driver for 2024. Lia has already achieved a tremendous amount in motorsport, has incredible natural talent, and the champion mindset and dedication to make a success of her journey into open-wheel racing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We cannot wait to get started on this journey together.
