A driver in Adelaide, Australia, allegedly performed a burnout directly in front of a marked patrol car before speeding away and eventually attempting to escape on foot.
The unusual encounter began shortly before 4:15 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 24, in Adelaide’s central business district. South Australia Police said Eastern District patrols were handling an unrelated road hazard on Morphett Street when the white Toyota hatchback passed them.
The driver allegedly spun the Toyota’s tires in front of the officers. When patrols directed him to stop, police said he refused and drove away at speed along Morphett Street.
Police tracked the Toyota to Currie Street and then Solomon Street. Police said the driver left the car and ran, but officers arrested him after locating him back on Currie Street. The unrelated road hazard was an ironing board lying in Morphett Street, according to the South Australia Police release.
An Ironing Board Put Patrols in the Right Place

The police did not say how the ironing board ended up in the street.
They also did not identify anyone else inside the Toyota.
The Toyota Was Impounded for 28 Days
Police identified the arrested driver only as a 23-year-old man from Hectorville, a suburb east of central Adelaide. Police charged him with two counts of misuse of a motor vehicle, two counts of hindering police, driving under the influence, drug possession, and additional traffic offenses.

The Driver Has a November Court Date
The man was granted police bail and is scheduled to appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court on Nov. 12. 7NEWS Australia reported the arrest and listed the charges and court date.
South Australia Police did not release the man’s name or provide further details about the driving-under-the-influence allegation.
