Spanish police have arrested one of Sweden’s most wanted fugitives near Barcelona, authorities said on Monday.
The man is wanted by Swedish authorities and is accused of around 20 violent crimes, including murders and homicides, Spain’s Interior Ministry said. He allegedly trained young recruits to carry out killings and organized attacks and supplied them with weapons, the ministry said.
The man was arrested on Saturday in the seaside town of Sitges, about 30 kilometres from Barcelona, after several days of surveillance, police said. Spanish and Swedish authorities had been investigating the man since June 2025, the ministry said.
The ministry said the man had close links to a notorious Swedish criminal figure known as the “Pablo Escobar of Sweden,” a reference to the former Colombian drug lord.
