The 55-SGT Is The Ultimate Vehicle For Alfa Romeo Fans

Few touring cars are as iconic as the Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI that dominated Germany’s DTM championship in the early 1990s. More than three decades later, Italian coachbuilder SGT Automobili has revived that legendary racer with an extreme modern interpretation called the 55-SGT.

Rather than restoring an original 155, SGT has taken a different approach. The company transforms a modern Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio into a machine that captures the look and spirit of the championship-winning touring car while delivering supercar-level performance.

The result is a highly exclusive creation that combines carbon-fiber bodywork, advanced aerodynamics, all-wheel drive, and a heavily upgraded twin-turbo V6 beneath unmistakable DTM-inspired styling.

With production limited to just 55 examples and pricing starting at around €500,000 before the donor car, the 55-SGT is aimed squarely at collectors looking for one of the most ambitious Alfa Romeo-inspired builds ever created.

Although it wears the unmistakable shape of the Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI, the 55-SGT is built using the underpinnings of the current Giulia Quadrifoglio.

Every exterior body panel has been replaced with bespoke components made from carbon fiber, Kevlar, and Carbotitanium, the advanced composite material developed by Pagani’s sister company. The donor sedan is transformed into a dramatic two-door coupe complete with flared fenders, aggressive aerodynamic elements, and proportions inspired directly by Alfa Romeo’s 1993 DTM champion.

SGT says the extensively reinforced chassis also delivers around 25 percent greater torsional rigidity than the original donor platform.

Up To 740 Horsepower

Power comes from Alfa Romeo’s Ferrari-derived twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6, although SGT has significantly increased its output.

The road-focused Stradale produces up to 612 horsepower, while the more track-focused Trofeo raises that figure to an impressive 740 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque. Both models use an eight-speed automatic transmission and a bespoke all-wheel-drive system that allows drivers to vary torque distribution or switch into a dedicated drift mode that sends all available power to the rear wheels.

The combination gives the 55-SGT performance that far exceeds the original Giulia Quadrifoglio while honoring the all-wheel-drive layout of the famous DTM racer.

Weight reduction plays a major role in the project. The Stradale weighs a claimed 1,590 kilograms, while the Trofeo cuts that to just 1,490 kilograms through additional lightweight components.

The Trofeo also receives carbon-fiber suspension wishbones, upgraded Brembo brakes, a four-wheel lift system, and an advanced aerodynamic package capable of generating up to 460 kilograms of downforce. Among its most striking features is an F1-inspired Drag Reduction System (DRS), allowing the rear wing to adjust for improved straight-line speed.

Inside, the cabin replaces the Giulia’s rear seats with a roll cage while adding racing bucket seats, aluminum switchgear, a carbon-fiber center console, and numerous physical controls that reinforce its motorsport character.

Exclusivity Comes At A Price

SGT Automobili plans to build just 55 examples of the 55-SGT, beginning with a 10-car Opening Edition reserved for selected customers.

Each build is expected to cost approximately €500,000 before buyers supply a donor Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, placing the total investment well into supercar territory. According to the company, four Opening Edition cars have already been spoken for, leaving only a handful of early production slots still available at the time of writing.

For Alfa Romeo enthusiasts who grew up watching the 155 dominate touring car racing, the 55-SGT offers an extraordinary blend of nostalgia and modern engineering. Rather than simply recreating the past, SGT Automobili has delivered a contemporary interpretation of one of motorsport’s most memorable sedans with performance capable of matching its dramatic appearance.
