Vance delays trip to Switzerland as plans for Iran talks not finalized

US Vice President JD Vance will not travel to Switzerland on Thursday night for planned Iran negotiations, the White House said.

A spokesman said plans for upcoming technical talks had not yet been finalized.

“The US delegation has been prepared to depart at the first available opportunity. But the logistics of these negotiations have never been simple or predictable,” he said.

“We will let you know as soon as we have a concrete update about next steps.”

Earlier on Thursday, Vance announced the official start of the next phase of negotiations with Iran following the conclusion of a framework agreement aimed at ending hostilities between the two countries.

The agreement was initially expected to be formally signed at an in-person ceremony on Friday in Switzerland attended by Vance, with the next stage of talks also kicking off. The text has already been signed electronically by both sides.
