Zach Braff Reveals What’s Holding Up the ‘Scrubs’ Reboot (Exclusive)

Zach Braff is all for a Scrubs reboot. During a conversation with ET’s Denny Directo, the 49-year-old actor revealed what’s holding up a reboot of the hospital-set sitcom.

“I’m gonna tell you something that nobody else is gonna get,” Braff promised ET. “Scrubs is a Disney show. Bill [Lawrence] has a Warner Bros. deal. Once those two companies figure that out, I think the people will get what they want. I think it’s gonna happen.”

As for if he’s eager to reprise his role of Dr. John Michael “J.D.” Dorian, Braff quipped, “Are you kidding me?”

“It would be so much fun [with] all my favorite people. We all still hang out. A lot of people who were on long shows say that, but it’s true,” he insisted. “I was just on vacation with Sarah Chalke… I’m going to the beach with Bill next weekend. We’re all friends.”

That was proven true when Braff reunited with Scrubs‘ Donald Faison to compete on the celebrity edition of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?

“It’s so fun. Obviously, I won’t give any spoilers, but we laughed our butts off,” Braff said of his and Faison’s turn on the competition series, which will air Aug. 14. “It was really fun.”

Braff was also part of another iconic project, his film Garden State, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary on Aug. 20.

“It did change my life, in that not a day goes by where someone doesn’t say that it was really impactful to them. That means so much to me,” he said. “I never though 20 years later people would still be talking about it.”

Braff, who starred in the indie drama alongside Natalie Portman, teased that the cast has something up its sleeves in honor of the movie’s huge milestone.

“We’re gonna do something really special. I’ll give you another exclusive. We’re gonna do something really special early next year for the soundtrack, so stay tuned,” he said. “Natalie may or may not be convinced to participate in that activity.”

For now, fans can see Braff in Bad Monkey, the Apple TV+ series that saw him reunite with Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence, who serves as an executive producer on the show.

“He’s just a brilliant story teller. I don’t know anyone quite like him. He also manages to make like five shows at a time and he’s the nicest person,” Braff said of Lawrence. “I don’t know. I’m just very blessed to have my wagon hitched to him.”

Bad Monkey premieres Aug. 14 on Apple TV+.
