Casualties in Russian glide bomb attack in eastern Ukraine

Four civilians have been killed, and a further five injured in the embattled Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine as a result of Russian glide bomb and drone attacks.

In the small town of Drushkivka, close to the front line, three men were initially killed when glide bombs dropped, the regional public prosecutor’s office reported on Telegram. An hour later, a drone struck a car, killing one of the occupants.

Druzhkivka lies south of Kramatorsk and is only about 20 kilometres from the Russian front lines.

Russian fighter jets release the bombs from the safety of their own airspace, and they are then guided to their target, gliding for dozens of kilometres.

Ukraine has so far had little means of countering this weapon. However, Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said Ukraine has developed its own glide bomb containing 250 kilograms of explosives that is due to be deployed soon, according to media reports.

Russia has been waging a devastating war against neighbouring Ukraine for more than four years.
