Flower Mound restaurant collecting donations for earthquake victims in Venezuela

A Flower Mound restaurant is serving more than food as North Texans rally to help victims of the devastating earthquake in Venezuela.

Maria Romero, a proud Venezuelan-American, says her family’s restaurant Super Sandy’s in Flower Mound has become a donation center for people looking to support those affected.

“I feel like we’re doing a lot, I feel like it’s not enough,” Romero said.

The restaurant is accepting hygiene products, diapers and baby formula for families impacted by the magnitude 7.5 earthquakes, which devastated parts of Venezuela’s coastline. Romero says the disaster struck where she and her mother still have family.

“Look at all the everybody coming right now to make donations,” she said. “People are walking in and out all day and all night.”

Aimy Romero was among those dropping off supplies.

“I think even if we are far away we can all feel it.” she said.

Sandy Romero has been in contact with relatives in Venezuela, who have shared photos and videos showing the destruction. Although her family was not near the epicenter, she says some of their homes have been badly damaged.

“Mind blown. I’m completely mind blown. It’s like out of a movie. A horror movie, that’s what it looks like.” said Maria.

Romero is also using social media to spread the word about the donation drive at the restaurant, which will continue only through Saturday.

While much of the world’s attention is focused elsewhere, Romero said she hopes people will also remember those suffering in Venezuela.
