German NATO soldiers attacked in the Netherlands

Two German soldiers from the NATO command in Brunssum in the Netherlands were subjected to a verbal and physical abuse attack, a spokesman for the Ministry of Defence in Berlin told dpa on Tuesday.

They sustained minor injuries but are in good health. The incident is being treated as a “security-related incident.”

The possible motives behind the attack are still being investigated by Dutch military and civilian police.

According to dpa information, leads are also being followed up regarding reports that the group of attackers shouted anti-NATO slogans and were masked.

The NATO command in Brunssum is an operational headquarters (Allied Joint Force Command). It is responsible for the defence of Central Europe – from the Atlantic to the alliance’s eastern border.
